Thomas is one of the original principals of Hungerford Financial, LLC which was started in 2009.  He has been in the Financial Planning field for over 25 years. He received his bachelor degree in Finance from Ferris State University in 1988 and his MBA from Western Michigan University in 1991. Thomas has the following designations that provide him with the education and knowledge related to Financial Planning:

Certified Wealth Strategist® (CWS®) – July 2007

To obtain the CWS® certification, one must go through a comprehensive blended approach to learning.  The program education and designations are administered by Cannon Financial Institute, in which the CWS® Board of Standards awards to individuals who successfully complete initial and ongoing certifications requirements.

Certified Retirement Counselor® (CRC®) – May 2009

The CRC® certification is obtained through an independent study program that covers Fundamentals of Retirement Planning, Fundamentals of Investments, Fundamentals of Retirement Plan Design and Fundamentals of Retirement Income Planning. The International Foundation for Retirement Education administrates the designation and is certified by Texas Tech University.

Accredited Investment Fiduciary Analyst™ (AIFA®) - December 2011

The AIFA designation certifies that the recipient has advanced knowledge of fiduciary standards of care, their application to the investment management process, and procedures for assessing conformance by third parties to fiduciary standards.  The certification is administered by the Center for Fiduciary Studies, LLC (a Fiduciary360 (fi360) company).


As a Financial Planner, Thomas covers a broad range of topics and planning issues. He utilizes a very disciplined and holistic approach to the planning process.  Some of the key comprehensive issues that are addressed is Investment Management, Risk Management, Reviewing Banking and Credit management, Retirement Planning, Estate Planning, and Philanthropic strategies.

Thomas is married and has three children. He enjoys playing basketball, golf, and tennis. He has taught at Davenport University in the Finance Department. His specialty classes of teaching are the six core courses needed to sit for Certified Financial Planning designation (CFP).

Chief Financial Officer

Tom has worked for the Hungerford CPA's for over 20 years in various roles from Controller to his current delegation as the firm’s CFO. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Central Michigan University.

Tom serves as the CFO for all the companies under the Hungerford umbrella which currently include operations in 5 different locations. Tom is actively involved with the companies daily financial oversight, strategic financial and tax planning, management of the administrative and finance teams, operations guidance as well as facilities maintenance.

Tom and his wife, Sally, have a daughter and two sons. Their family enjoys spending time outdoors in the summer camping, fishing, swimming, boating, and playing a variety of sports.

Chief Investment Officer


Connor joined the team at Hungerford Financial in 2020. He brings with him corporate finance and small business accounting experience. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, with an emphasis on Financial Planning, from Davenport University. Currently, Connor is working towards a CFA (Certified Financial Analyst) designation and is a level 2 candidate.

As the Portfolio Manager, Connor is responsible for investment management and portfolio construction for clients. This entails managing economic and investment policies for the firm based on ever changing market conditions.

Connor enjoys spending time with his wife, family, and friends and can often be found golfing when the weather is nice.

Chief Technology Officer

Matt Clarin is a Western Michigan University graduate with over 20 years of experience in the technology industry. He serves as the President of Hungerford Technologies, which provides managed services tailored for the Small to Medium Business market. HT advises on the lifecycle and day-to-day support of technology solutions such as cloud-based backup, business phones, video conferencing, web development, and cybersecurity.

Matt currently sits on the Right Place Technology Council of West Michigan, which strives to make West Michigan a national leader in digital technologies.

Matt enjoys spending time with his wife and three kids when he is not at work, often on bike rides for ice cream. Matt trains for triathlons to burn off that ice cream, completing multiple full-distance Ironman races.

He received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Grand Valley State University in 2002 and his Master of Science in Accounting from Grand Valley State University in 2003. Aaron is also a shareholder of Hungerford Nichols CPA’s + Advisors and has worked as a Certified Public Accountant since 2004. Aaron received his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification in 2022.

As a Financial Planner, Aaron utilizes his background in budgeting, cashflow analysis, financial reporting, tax planning, succession planning, and estate planning to provide comprehensive client service.

Aaron is married and has three children. He enjoys golf, hiking, biking, and outdoor activities.

Kerry earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Accounting from California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo in San Luis Obispo, California. He became a CPA in 1994 and earned the Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) credential from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) in 2003. He is a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Michigan Association of CPAs.

Kerry has worked in public accounting since 1986 and joined Hungerford CPA's in 2013. He is dedicated to helping clients make sound financial and business decisions, in addition to assisting business owners through specific transactions, he is regularly involved in preparing business valuations estate and gift tax purposes, exit and succession planning as well as for divorce and other litigation matters.

He is a past Chair of the Michigan Association of CPAs’ Litigation and Business Valuation Expert Panel and currently serves as a Business Valuation/ Litigation Support Core Team Leader for AGN International, Ltd.

Tessa has been with Hungerford CPA's for over twelve years and leads the Accounting Solutions Team. She works with a variety of industries and organizations to ensure they have accurate financial information and sound business processes. Her areas of expertise include financial planning and analysis, business systems implementation, and not-for-profit accounting and management. She is passionate about people, accounting & advisory, and life in general.

 As a certified public accountant in Michigan, her education and certifications include an Associate of Science in Business Studies from Cornerstone University and a Bachelor of Business Administration, with a major in accounting from Grand Valley State University.

Tessa’s professional involvement includes the American Institute of Public Accountants (AICPA), Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA), and the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA). She currently serves on the board of directors for the Michigan State Board of Accountancy and The West Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce & Foundation. She previously served on the boards for The Grand Rapids Civic Theatre and The Brains Foundation as well as the Steering Committee for the Kent County Welcome Plan. In addition to her board involvement, Tessa serves on the firm’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Team and Community Committee.

Hillary joined Hungerford CPA's in 2015. She received her bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University in 2014 and her Master of Business Administration in Human Resources Management in 2019. She shortly after became a Senior Certified Professional through the Society of Human Resource Management and a Gallup Certified Strengths Coach.

In her HR role, she works with talent acquisition, onboarding, total rewards administration and strategy, DEI, performance management, career advocacy, and other HR related responsibilities.

Hillary loves spending time with her husband, twin sister, family, and friends. Her hobbies include live music, fashion, good coffee, MSU Spartans and Detroit Lions football.

Kenzie joined the team at Hungerford Financial in 2023. She brings with her a varied and rich background in customer service and management. Kenzie earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a focus in marketing from Wayne State University in 2016. Since graduating, she has gained experience in both brand marketing and graphic design. Kenzie is also certified as an Associate Professional in Human Resources and holds her Michigan License for Life, Accident, and Health Insurance.

In her free time, she enjoys running, boating, and baking. Kenzie can often be found walking her dog, Ruth, or spending time with friends and family.
